Overview

The ECO Charge 7.2kW Smart OCPP EVSE is a feature-rich single-phase wall-mounted EVSE for everyday home, bach, workplace, and light commercial EV charging.

It is a great option if you want more than a basic wall unit, with Dynamic Load Balancing, OCPP support, app control, RFID access, plug-and-charge operation, optional solar capability, and a flexible Type 2 socket.

Because this is a socketed EVSE, you use your own charging cable. This makes it easy to charge different vehicles by using the correct cable, and means you can take the cable with you to BYO-cable AC charging locations such as malls, supermarkets, motels, and public destination chargers.

Best for

  • Homes wanting a smart single-phase wall-mounted EVSE
  • Drivers wanting Dynamic Load Balancing to help protect the home supply
  • Customers wanting OCPP support for future smart charging compatibility
  • Multi-EV households where a socketed EVSE gives more flexibility
  • Baches, shared driveways, small workplaces, and light commercial installs

Compatibility

Connection type: Type 2 socket / untethered

This EVSE suits Type 2, Type 1, and Japanese-import Tesla/NACS electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids when used with the correct charging cable.

Why choose the ECO Charge?

  • Smart value: more feature-rich than a basic wall unit without jumping to the top of the price range
  • Dynamic Load Balancing: adjusts charging power to help reduce the risk of overloading your home supply
  • OCPP support: useful future-proofing as energy companies and charging networks move toward smarter managed charging
  • EECA-approved: listed as an approved smart EV charger for New Zealand use
  • Socketed flexibility: change cables as your vehicles change, or support visitors with different EVs
  • Multiple start options: use app control, RFID cards, or simple plug-and-charge operation
  • Optional solar capability: can be set up for solar-aware charging with optional accessories
  • Built-in DC leakage detection: includes EV-specific fault protection as part of the unit

Smart charging features

The ECO Charge includes app-based control for starting, stopping, scheduling, and monitoring charging. It can show charging status and session information, and can also be set up for simple plug-and-charge use if you prefer not to use the app day to day.

Dynamic Load Balancing uses a CT clamp to monitor site demand and adjust EV charging power when other household loads are high. This is especially useful for homes where the main supply may be limited or where large appliances are often used while the EV is charging.

OCPP support gives the EVSE a pathway for future smart charging and managed charging services. Where compatible services are available, this can allow opt-in control or management of charging during peak demand periods.

Charging speed guide

On a suitable single-phase 32A supply, this EVSE can charge at up to 7.2kW. That is roughly 50–55km of range per hour for a typical efficient EV, or most/all of a full charge overnight for many vehicles.

Actual charging speed depends on the vehicle, cable, installation, available supply, EVSE settings, battery state, and charging losses.
