Overview

This Type 2 to NACS EV charging cable is designed for Japanese-import Tesla vehicles with the NACS/Tesla charge port, allowing them to charge from Type 2 socketed AC EVSEs and BYO-cable public AC charging points.

It gives Japanese-import Tesla owners a cleaner way to use Type 2 AC charging without needing a separate Type 2 to NACS adaptor.

This cable is useful for socketed home EVSEs, malls, supermarkets, motels, workplaces, and other AC charging locations where you are expected to bring your own cable.

This cable is intended for Japanese-import Tesla vehicles with the NACS/Tesla AC charge port. It is not the correct cable for NZ-new or UK-import Teslas with a Type 2 charge port.

Some Tesla vehicles can have different charge ports depending on year, market, and whether they are NZ-new, UK-import, or Japanese-import, so please check your charge port before ordering.

Why cable rating matters

AC charging speed is limited by the lowest-rated part of the charging setup. Some charging cables are only rated for 16A single-phase, which can limit charging to around 3.6kW even if the EVSE and vehicle could support more.

This cable is rated for 32A single-phase AC charging, allowing up to 7.2kW where supported. For a typical efficient EV, that is roughly 50–55km of range per hour from a suitable 32A single-phase EVSE.

Actual charging speed depends on the EVSE, vehicle, installation, available supply, vehicle settings, battery state, and charging losses.

Important notes

  • This cable does not enable CCS or DC fast charging.
  • Japanese-import Teslas may still need a separate CCS conversion to use CCS2 DC fast chargers in New Zealand.
  • This cable is for Type 2 socketed EVSEs and BYO-cable AC charging locations, not tethered Type 2 EVSEs with a fixed cable.
  • If your Tesla has a Type 2 charge port, you will need a different cable.

Choosing the right cable

Choose this Type 2 to NACS cable if you have a Japanese-import Tesla with the NACS/Tesla charge port and want to charge from Type 2 socketed AC EVSEs without using a separate adaptor.

For Type 2 vehicles, use a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. For Type 1 vehicles such as many Japanese-import Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV models, use a Type 2 to Type 1 cable.
