Overview
The Evnex E2 Core is a New Zealand-made 7.2kW smart home EVSE with solar-aware charging included from day one.
It is a great choice if you want a locally made Evnex unit with app control, smart scheduling, home overload protection, solar charging, and a 5m attached Type 2 charging cable.
Compared with the E2 Flex, the E2 Core adds solar smart charging as standard. Compared with the E2 Plus, it keeps the price lower by using a 5m cable and Wi-Fi connectivity only.
Best for
- Homes wanting a New Zealand-made single-phase EVSE
- Customers with solar, or planning to add solar in the future
- Drivers wanting solar-aware charging included from day one
- Everyday home charging with app control and smart scheduling
- Homes wanting overload protection to help manage household power use
- Drivers who prefer an attached Type 2 cable ready to plug in
Compatibility
Connection type: Attached Type 2 charging cable
The E2 Core is designed for Type 2 electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. This includes most NZ-new, UK-import, European, Korean, Chinese, and modern EVs fitted with a Type 2 AC charge port.
Common Type 2 vehicles in New Zealand include Tesla Model 3/Y, BYD Atto 3/Dolphin/Seal, MG ZS EV/MG4, Hyundai Ioniq/Kona/Ioniq 5, Kia Niro EV/EV6/EV9, Polestar 2, Volvo, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, VW, Peugeot, Renault, Mini, Ford, LDV, Toyota bZ4X, Subaru Solterra, and many other EVs and PHEVs.
This tethered Type 2 unit is best suited to vehicles with a Type 2 AC charge port. If you want to easily change between Type 2, Type 1, or Japanese-import Tesla/NACS vehicles, a socketed EVSE may be a better choice.
Why choose the E2 Core?
- New Zealand-made: designed and built by Evnex
- Solar included: solar-aware charging is included from day one
- Best-value solar Evnex: a great middle option between the E2 Flex and E2 Plus
- Home overload protection: adjusts charging to help prevent overloading your home supply
- Smart scheduling: set charging times to make better use of off-peak power rates
- App control: manage schedules, charging sessions, and energy use from the Evnex app
- Attached Type 2 cable: convenient daily charging without needing to plug in a separate cable
- Built-in DC leakage detection: includes EV-specific fault protection as part of the unit
Solar and smart charging features
The E2 Core is designed for homes with solar or homes that may add solar in the future. It can prioritise excess solar generation for EV charging, helping you make better use of the power your home already produces.
When solar is not available, the E2 Core can still charge from the grid and use smart scheduling to help make better use of off-peak power rates.
Home overload protection helps manage charging around the rest of your household power use. If other appliances are using a lot of power, the E2 Core can reduce charging power to help protect the home supply.
The E2 Core connects to the Evnex app over Wi-Fi, allowing you to manage charging schedules, monitor energy use, and track charging sessions from your phone.
Charging speed guide
On a suitable single-phase 32A supply, the E2 Core can charge at up to 7.2kW. That is roughly 50–55km of range per hour for a typical efficient EV, or most/all of a full charge overnight for many vehicles.
Actual charging speed depends on the vehicle, installation, available supply, EVSE settings, battery state, and charging losses.

Choosing the right EV charging setup
The Evnex E2 Core is a great choice if you want a New Zealand-made, tethered, single-phase home EVSE with solar charging included, smart scheduling, app control, and home overload protection.
If you do not need solar charging yet and want the most affordable Evnex E2 option, consider the Evnex E2 Flex. It is a grid-first Evnex unit with the option to unlock solar charging later.
If you want the premium Evnex single-phase option with a longer 8m cable, 4G connectivity, solar-aware charging, and the most flexible Evnex home setup, consider the Evnex E2 Plus.
If you prefer a socketed EVSE so you can change cables between Type 2, Type 1, and Japanese-import Tesla/NACS vehicles, consider the ECO Charge 7.2kW Smart OCPP EVSE or the EV Power Slimline Single Phase EVSE.

Evnex units are shipped directly from Evnex in Auckland. Stock availability and dispatch timing are controlled by Evnex, so delivery may vary depending on their current production and stock levels. If timing is important, please get in touch before ordering and we can check the current options.
Installation
This EVSE must be installed by a registered electrician. Suitable circuit protection and installation requirements will depend on your site, switchboard, supply capacity, solar setup, and how the EVSE is configured.
