Overview

The Evnex X22 is a premium New Zealand-made 22kW smart EVSE for homes, businesses, workshops, and commercial sites with three-phase power.

It is the high-performance option in the Evnex range, with support for three-phase charging, solar-aware charging, Dynamic Load Balancing, OCPP, Wi-Fi, 4G, Ethernet, app control, RFID access, and phase switching.

The X22 is available as either a socketed EVSE or a tethered EVSE with an attached 5m Type 2 charging cable. Please select the connection type you want before ordering.

Choose socketed or tethered

This listing is available in two connection types:

  • Socketed: Type 2 socket with no fixed cable. Use your own charging cable for maximum flexibility.
  • Tethered: Includes an attached 5m Type 2 charging cable for simple everyday plug-in charging.

The socketed version is best if you want to charge different vehicles by changing cables, or if you want to take your cable with you to BYO-cable AC charging locations such as malls, supermarkets, motels, and public destination chargers.

The tethered version is best if you mainly charge Type 2 vehicles and want the convenience of a cable permanently attached and ready to plug in.

Best for

  • Homes or businesses with three-phase power available
  • Drivers with EVs that support three-phase AC charging
  • Solar homes wanting a premium solar-aware EVSE
  • Workshops, dealerships, fleet sites, staff parking, and commercial charging
  • Customers wanting OCPP support and future managed charging compatibility
  • Installations where Dynamic Load Balancing helps protect the site supply
  • Customers wanting a premium New Zealand-made three-phase EVSE

Compatibility

Connection type: Type 2 socket or attached Type 2 charging cable, depending on selected option

The X22 is designed for three-phase AC charging up to 22kW, but charging speed depends on both your site supply and the vehicle’s onboard AC charger.

Many EVs only support single-phase AC charging. These vehicles can still charge from the X22, but they will only charge at their own single-phase AC limit. To get the full 22kW benefit, your vehicle must support three-phase AC charging and the EVSE must be installed on a suitable three-phase supply.

If you choose the socketed version, it can support a wider range of vehicles when used with the correct cable:

  • Use a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for most NZ-new, UK-import, European, Korean, Chinese, and modern Type 2 EVs.
  • Use a Type 2 to Type 1 cable for many Japanese-import Type 1 vehicles such as Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. These vehicles will charge at single-phase speeds only.
  • Use a Type 2 to NACS cable for Japanese-import Teslas with the NACS/Tesla charge port. These vehicles will generally charge at single-phase speeds only.

If you choose the tethered version, it is best suited to vehicles with a Type 2 AC charge port.

Why choose the X22?

  • Premium three-phase Evnex option: the highest-output EVSE in the Evnex range
  • New Zealand-made: designed and built by Evnex
  • Up to 22kW charging: ideal for compatible vehicles and three-phase sites
  • Solar-aware charging: designed to make better use of excess solar generation
  • Dynamic Load Balancing: adjusts charging power to help prevent overloading your home or site supply
  • OCPP support: suitable for future smart charging, managed charging, and commercial charging systems
  • Phase switching: can operate in single-phase or three-phase mode depending on the installation and charging setup
  • Strong connectivity: Wi-Fi, 4G, and Ethernet connectivity for reliable smart functionality
  • Socketed or tethered options: choose flexibility or convenience to suit your site
  • Built-in DC leakage detection: includes EV-specific fault protection as part of the unit

Solar, smart charging, and load management

The X22 is designed for homes and businesses that want more control over EV charging. It can work with solar setups to make better use of available generation, and can charge from solar, the grid, or a mix of both depending on setup and available power.

Dynamic Load Balancing helps manage charging around the rest of your site’s power use. When household or business loads are high, the X22 can reduce charging power to help protect the supply and reduce nuisance tripping.

OCPP support gives the X22 a pathway for managed charging, fleet charging, reporting, and future smart charging services where compatible platforms are used.

Phase switching allows the X22 to operate in single-phase or three-phase mode, giving it more flexibility for solar charging, site load management, and vehicles with different AC charging capabilities.

Charging speed guide

On a suitable three-phase 32A supply, the X22 can charge at up to 22kW. For compatible vehicles, that can add roughly 120–150km of range per hour, making it much faster than a single-phase 7.2kW EVSE.

Many EVs only accept single-phase AC charging, so they will not charge at the full 22kW rate even when connected to a three-phase EVSE. Actual charging speed depends on the vehicle, cable or tethered connection, installation, available supply, EVSE settings, battery state, and charging losses.

Choosing the right EV charging setup

The Evnex X22 is the premium choice if you have three-phase power and want a New Zealand-made EVSE with 22kW charging capability, solar-aware charging, Dynamic Load Balancing, OCPP support, strong connectivity, and socketed or tethered options.

If you have three-phase power but want a simpler and more budget-friendly socketed EVSE, consider the EV Power Slimline Three Phase EVSE. It is a great-value 22kW option without the advanced Evnex smart features.

If your home only has single-phase power, or your vehicle only supports single-phase AC charging, a 7.2kW single-phase EVSE may be the better fit. For a premium New Zealand-made single-phase option, consider the Evnex E2 Plus.

Stock and dispatch

Evnex units are shipped directly from Evnex in Auckland. Stock availability and dispatch timing are controlled by Evnex, so delivery may vary depending on their current production and stock levels. If timing is important, please get in touch before ordering and we can check the current options.

Installation

This EVSE must be installed by a registered electrician. Three-phase charging requires a suitable three-phase supply. Suitable circuit protection and installation requirements will depend on your site, switchboard, supply capacity, solar setup, load management configuration, connectivity, and how the EVSE is configured.
